There are a variety of kinds of trombones, the kinds of trombones include: tenor trombone, tenor-bass trombone, bass and contrabass trombone, alto and soprano trombone, and the valve trombone. these are what each of them look like and the similar and differences.
This is a tenor trombone, this is very similar to a slide trombone but has more curls in the tube which deepens the noise of the trombone. The tenor trombone was made in the 16th century and originates in Germany.

The bass trombone is very similar to the tenor trombone, the only difference is this trombone is a little bit longer then a slide trombone. This trombone made an appearance in 19th century. the bass trombone is pitched at a F.
This is the contrabass trombone, it plays in Bb pitch like most trombones, and was created in the 19th century and remained popular though to the 20th century.
The soprano trombone is a bit different then the normal tenor trombone, the normal tenor trombone is about 9 feet long; however, the soprano trombone is about 4 feet long. This trombone is played is the same range as the tenor trombone, Bb. This trombone was used since the 16th century and was one of the most popular trombones until the 18th century.
Now, the alto trombone is not as short as the soprano trombone but still is shorter then a tenor trombone. The alto trombone is was made is the mid 15th century. The alto trombone is pitched higher as it is in Eb.
the valve trombone was made around the same time as the bass and contrabass trombones which is in the 19th-20th century. This valve trombone also plays in the basic Bb pitch.
